
The Governor General's Gold Medal
Recipient: the graduating student who achieves the highest academic standing, with first-class honours, in a Master's degree program.
The Hartman Awards (2)
Value: $200. Recipient: a student graduating from the Humanities or Social Sciences who has achieved an overall average of at least 80% on all courses required for the degree. Applicants must have been first admitted to the University as mature students. One award is presented in the spring, the other in the fall.
Dr. Edna L. Moore Graduation Scholarship
Value: $150. Recipient: the student in the Nursing program who, throughout the four years of study, has demonstrated excellence in nursing, general proficiency, interest and ability in Public Health and Mental Health Nursing. Selection is made by the School of Nursing and the scholarship is awarded at Convocation.
The A.L.P.S. Academic Achievement Awards
Recipient: the graduating student in each faculty who has taken at least 10 courses through the Centre for Continuing Education and has achieved the highest academic standing on all courses required for the degree. These awards are presented twice yearly at Convocation.
The Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario Graduating Award of Excellence
Value: $2,150 (total), consists of an initial cash award of $500, plus a credit of $2,000 to be used to cover tuition fees for the CGA program. The recipient must enrol in the 18 months following receipt of the award, thereby using the first credit. The remaining credit will be valid as long as the person is enrolled in the CGA program in Ontario. Applicants must have a min. A average in the Laurentian courses identified as equivalents to CGA subjects (FA2, FA3 and MA1) and be enrolled in the final year of the Bachelor of Commerce program or the Master of Business Administration. Selection is made by the Academic Council of the School of Commerce and Administration.
A.B. Lakshman Memorial Prize in Biology
Established by the colleagues and friends of the late Dr. A.B. Lakshman of the Department of Biology. Recipient: the graduating student in the Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology who achieved the highest overall average in all courses required for the Biology specialization.
The Austrian Book Prize
A gift from the Austrian Embassy. Recipient: the graduating student who has obtained the best grades in German, as selected by the German section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Undergraduate Student Award
An engraved medallion and a citation is awarded in the spring to the graduate of the School of Human Kinetics who has the highest overall average in undergraduate science courses. Selection is made by the Senate Committee on Admissions, Promotions and Requests on the recommendation of the School of Human Kinetics.
President's Award for Excellence
The President's Award for Excellence was established in 1988-1989, with funds endowed by the Sudbury District Boys' Home Charitable Trust, to recognize a Canadian student of the University who has demonstrated excellence in writing a major paper, and in applying her/his leadership qualities. The competition is open to all students (Canadian citizens) registered in an undergraduate program at the Sudbury campus of the University during the current academic year. A student may receive the prize only once. The essay must be an original work of quality writing in English or French that contains a thorough argument on the topic combined with novel insights and ideas. The essays are judged on originality and analysis, content, organization, style and format. The winner of each contest receives a cash prize of $2,500 and the runner-up is awarded $1,000.
The Incontri Book Prize
Awarded annually by Incontri, Laurentian University Italian Club. Recipient: a full-time student entering the 2nd year of the Italian Studies program who achieved the highest academic standing in their first Italian course in the previous year. Selection is made on the recommendation of the Italian Studies coordinator.
The Dr. John Yin Book Prize
Awarded annually by the Department of Political Science. Recipient: a full-time student graduating with a specialization in Political Science who has achieved the highest academic standing in at least three International Relations courses.
The Dr. M.A.K. Menon Memorial Book Prize
Awarded annually by the Department of Political Science. Recipient: a full-time student graduating with a specialization in Political Science who has achieved the highest academic standing in at least three Public Administation courses.
The Canadian Society of Petroleum Geology Award
Awarded annually to the best undergraduate student in a field relating to Petroleum Geology (stratigraphy, paleontology, sedimentary geochemistry, structural geology, etc. as applied to petroleum geology). The award consists of an engraved certificate and a one-year student membership in the C.S.P.G. All students meeting the criteria and enrolled in the Geology program are automatically eligible. Selection is made by a committee appointed by the Department of Earth Sciences.
